Goodbye British Telecom!

With this set-up, who needs an ISP.  So once I have signed up for Web-hosting, it's goodbye to BT.

(And I did set up web hosting from wwww.Daily.co.uk.)

BT is making great investments in technology for the few who can receive a good service.  They are not maintaining their infrastructure, in that the cables need replacing to support this.  Why should they care? Their competitors also rely on their system.  People in the next road to me are paying for an unreliable service and have been sold packages beyond the capabilities of the phone line.

I am not normally vindictive, but BT's customer-care stinks:

Local engineers literally laughing at the idea the lines could support broadband when it didn't work.
Not releasing me from the broadband account to regain my dial-up account, so I paid twice for weeks.

When trying to get a second line into my office in our converted garage I found some armoured tubing dumped at the door.  When I phoned to enquire what the situation was, their reply was, 'We don't do digging!'

I have been a customer of BT for 27 years, so the next bit is unforgivable.

In a weak moment, I was misled by a con-salesman who implied he represented a billing company for BT and I agreed to pay by direct debit.  After getting a letter from BT to say sorry you’re leaving and a letter from Southern Talk welcoming me, I tried to cancel it, as I would have to pay for my dial-up internet calls.  Admittedly, Southern Talk failed to cancel it, but then it cost me £37.50 to re-connect to BT, which I paid on-line.

Then the trouble started: Reminders for not paying that £37.50, (which went to my old account), two whole afternoons in a phone queue from one department to another as each could not access the old or the new account, two ignored email complaints, twice being cut off, so another afternoon for each in a phone queue.  Someone did eventually find my money and explained the service was bad as they were all in training for a new system.  I was dumbfounded when I received my bill to find they had charged me for the re-connections and payment fees.

So the whole episode cost four lost afternoons, and more than £80, which I am determined I will get back.

So I am looking for another phone company! It will not be Southern Talk!
